David Dunlop’s Live Online Studio Painting Demonstration Classes

David’s New Exclusive Interactive Online Painting Demonstration Classes.   As we are all so aware, this is a difficult and uniquely surreal time and David and SimmonsArt wish all of you and your families safety and good health during this time.

Many of us are continuing to turn to art and our painting and we are happy that you are interested in David’s new online classes.   As always, David will endeavor to bring you a wealth of artistic, historical, and scientific information, artistic precedents, unique painting demonstrations, encouragement, tips, and insights in these classes until we meet again in person.

DAVID’S NEW ONLINE PAINTING DEMONSTRATION CLASSES:

1.   Two-Hour Painting Demonstration Class on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at 11amEST – Investigations in Landscape Painting: Translucence, Reflections & Atmosphere Painting Workshop.  This new monthly two-hour class from David’s studio will begin with a discussion of landscape painting considerations and topics and an examination of relevant source materials, and David will then complete a painting demonstration.  David will continue his investigations into landscape painting, focusing on varieties of landscape topics from close-ups to vistas, from water to land, from forests to cities. He will examine how these paintings evolved across the globe from ancient history to a contemporary perspective.

In this June painting demonstration, David will explore how to create the magical effects of watery translucence and quivering surface reflections in your paintings and how to evoke misty atmosphere and the movement of water with its reflections and translucence.  This demonstration using oils and other media like inks, acrylics, and watercolors to create these different effects.   We experiment with materials, subjects, techniques and palettes. David will explore painting nature from realism into semi-abstraction, examining  patterns  and textures in nature and how we can recreate their effects.   We will study how the modes of biological perception shape our expressions.  This class will not include a painting critique of class members’ paintings.

2. June Series of 4 Weekly Online Landscape Painting Workshops with Individual Painting Critique (June 6, 13, 20 and 27, 2020 at 11:00am EST)     David will lead a series of four 2.5-3.5 hr. live online workshops from his studio which each include a discussion, painting demonstrations and a personal critique of class members’ paintings on Zoom on Saturdays in June at 11amEST.  These weekly Saturday Classes will have the following format:

a.  Live Studio Discussion and Painting Demonstration by David (60-90 minutes).    David will present his painting topic for the class in his inimitable style, and he may discuss different photographs and paintings to illustrate his discussion – from Old Master to contemporary paintings.  He will select a composition, diagram the painting, discuss his palette considerations, and then complete a unique demonstration painting.

b.  Painting Critique of the Class Member Paintings.   If you are interested in having David look at one of your paintings and offer a personal critique of the painting for approximately 3-5 minutes, then you can send a high resolution image of your painting to us by 6pm Friday evening for the Saturday Class. (We will send you the appropriate email after you register for the workshops.)   David will discuss it with you during the workshop in the order that the paintings are submitted to him.

We are getting new equipment to upgrade the quality of the classes, which we will have in the next several weeks, depending upon shipping constraints during this unusual time.   Recordings of the workshops may be available at a later date.

c.  Zoom Video Conferencing.   We are using the Zoom video conferencing technology, which also allows us to record the class.  Not everything will work perfectly at first, but we will keep trying to improve our online experience. Thank you for your patience!  (You can use the free Zoom option and you will need to register at Zoom before the class.  Click here for more information on how to register for Zoom.)  Please update your Zoom software because there have been issues with Zoom because of the recent surge in usage because so many people are now at home.
