Adventures in Landscape Painting Description:

In each class David begins with a painting demonstration and examples from historical and contemporary artists. He follows this with a personal visit with each artist to see where they want go with their painting andoffers gentle encouraging guidance whether they are working in oil, mixed media, watercolor, acrylic or other media. You may wish to bring your own photos or David will provide an assortment to choose from.

Day 1. Visions of Venice
David will demonstrate the light, water, reflections, and poetic atmosphere of Venice. We will learn how historic artists used Venice as their muse, from Turner to Monet, Whistler, and Sargent. We will see how they composed their works, their palettes and the painting and drawing tools they used. David will demonstrate in oil and mixed media and show you how to persuasively simulate the water, walls, and atmosphere of Venice.

Day 2. Nature’s Garden.
David gives you a studio adventure through meadows of wildflowers, grasses, and with a meandering stream or pond. We see how artists from Monet to contemporary artists created their garden paintings, wild or domesticated. We learn how they created the feeling of richly complex floral activity through textures, and a wide variety of paint techniques and painting tools. David’s demonstration will use oils and mixed media and a large range of painting tools.

Day 3. Autumn’s Glory.
David takes you on a journey through Autumn landscapes. He will explore autumn vistas with deep panoramic space, vast cloudscapes, and the simultaneous experience of feeling tucked into an intimate pocket of nature with a view out to infinity. His demonstration will take you from close-up to broad distance. David’s demonstration will examine how past and contemporary artists explored the subject of autumn’s palette in a panoramic setting. David’s demonstration will be in oil and mixed media.
