PAINTING SKIES – TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 2020 – Online Landscape Painting Workshop (2-2.5 hr.)
Skies are endlessly fascinating and painting skies has been a great joy and challenge for landscape painters throughout history. David will explore many aspects of designing and painting skies with particular attention to capturing the effects of wind, motion, light, luminosity and layering in relation to the landscape. In David’s inimitable and inspiring style, he will examine how some of the greatest landscape painters have approached this topic, examining their compositions, palettes and techniques.
David will then paint a demonstration painting using mixed media while examining:
– the design and composition of higher and lower perspectives and horizons for landscape paintings;
– the importance of linear and atmospheric perspective in achieving desired effects;
– multiple painting techniques for shaping, toning and creating texture in a sky;
– how to use open and closed edges in clouds and skies; and
– creating myriad and dramatic sky effects by using different color palettes.

Oil and Mixed Media Painting Demonstrations. Since we are not physically traveling at this moment in time, David will use photographs as his source material in these workshops. These demonstrations will involve layering mixed media. These workshops will offer an exciting guide to finding, designing and painting beautiful, luminous landscapes using old master techniques in a contemporary manner.
There is no painting critique of class members paintings in this demonstration Workshop but David will be happy to answer your questions.
