David’s reputation as a painter who skilled, energetic and incredibly insightful regarding all aspects of art prompted the Metropolitan Museum of Art to invite him to lecture at their esteemed program. We are very excited to off your this opportunity to study with someone whose immense knowledge of painting is matched with a highly energetic and encouraging teaching style.

Come capture the natural beauty of Spring, Summer and Autumn in this workshop. David will demonstrate every day with subjects ranging from wildflower meadows, lakes and ponds and even the golden hues of Autumn. In each demonstration he weaves in examples and fascinating tidbits from historical and contemporary artists, and throughout the afternoon as students paint, he makes a personal visit to each student to help them expand their skills at their own individual level.

Students can work in oil, mixed media, watercolor, acrylic any other media of your choice. You can bring your own photos to work from or select from David’s assortment.

DAY 1 – WILDFLOWER MEADOWS

Here we reveal the secrets of a meadow’s luminous morning atmosphere. We learn how to quickly and easily evoke rich details through simple, yet suggestive brushwork. David will demonstrate in oil and mixed media, and show you how to persuasively simulate the atmosphere of your chosen subject.

DAY 2- LAKES AND PONDS: Reflections and Translucence

Here we discover the secrets of persuasive reflections and how to create the sensation of natural elements floating above and below the water’s surface. We learn how to cast the spell of distant space alongside reflected skies while emphasizing natural radiance. David’s demonstration will use oils and mixed media and a large range of tools to inspire your creativity.

Here we combine distant misty hillsides with nature up close and personal. We experience panoramic views of nature stretching from close up to infinitely far by using various principles of perspective. We will paint not only the light, but the weather and atmosphere as well. His demonstration in oil and mixed media will help guide you from close up perspectives into the distance.
