David’s Online Painting Demonstration – Experiments in Landscape Painting. – OCTOBER 28, 2020 at 1:00pm EDT (2-2.5 hrs.)
In this new monthly two-hour live online workshop from David’s studio, David will explore interweaving patterns of contrasting colors, textures, and forms as found in natural settings. He will demonstrate how to create sparkle effects, luminosity, the sensation of wind and varieties of natural textures as we experience them. Learn how nature’s organic rhythmic sequences can be arranged into unified compositions. This demonstration will involve layering mixed media.
Since we are not physically travelling at this moment in time, David will use photographs as his source material. He will examine and discuss historic precedents for different ideas and then sketch several compositions to explore different possibilities. This 2-2.5 hr. program will offer an exciting guide to finding, designing and painting exciting luminous landscapes using old master techniques in a contemporary manner.
There is no painting critique of class members paintings in this demonstration Workshop.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE FORMAT OF DAVID’S CLASSES:
a. Live Studio Discussion and Painting Demonstration by David (1.5 hours). David will present his painting topic for the class in his inimitable style, and he may discuss different photographs and paintings to illustrate his discussion – from Old Master to contemporary paintings. He will select a composition, diagram the painting, discuss his palette considerations, and then complete a unique demonstration painting.
b. Painting Critique of the Class Member Paintings. If you are interested in having David look at one of your paintings and offer a personal critique of the painting for approximately 3-5 minutes, then you can send a high resolution image of your painting to us by 6pm of the evening before the respective class. David will discuss your painting with you during the workshop in the order in which the paintings are submitted to him.
c. Recordings of the selected workshops may be available after the workshop in either the Zoom format or the higher resolution format – when available.
d. Zoom Video Conferencing. We are using the Zoom video conferencing technology, which also allows us to record the class. Not everything will work perfectly at first, but we will keep trying to improve our online experience. Thank you for your patience! (You can use the free Zoom option and you will need to register at Zoom before the class. Click here for more information on how to register for Zoom.) Please update your Zoom software because there have been issues with Zoom because of the recent surge in usage because so many people are now at home.
RECORDED VERSIONS OF PREVIOUS WORKSHOPS
DISTANT LANDSCAPES – Wednesday, August 5, 2020 – Recorded Version of David’s Online Landscape Painting Workshop (2-2.5 hr.)
We will Zoom to Tuscany’s rolling, poppy cluttered, olive groves. The painting demonstration will stretch our vision across a vast panorama of Blue Mountains freckled with farms and cypress groves as we paint deep perspectives. Roads ascend in winding ribbons; fields dip gracefully into valleys. David will demonstrate different techniques to create vivid textures and colors that recede into blended atmosphere.
Since we are not physically travelling at this moment in time, David will use photographs as his source material. He will examine and discuss historic precedents for different ideas and then sketch several compositions to explore different possibilities. David will then create a brief watercolor study before he turns to his demonstration painting in oil. This 2-2.5 hr. program will offer an exciting guide to finding, designing and painting exciting luminous landscapes using old master techniques in a contemporary manner. We will also post a lightly edited version of the program a few days after the workshop for later review. This class will not include critiques of class members paintings.
